How to crop or resize a video

Add your video

Drop in the clip you want to crop. The FFmpeg engine loads on first use.

Crop or resize it

Pick an aspect ratio and a crop position, then choose an output resolution. The overlay on the preview shows the area that will be kept.

Download the result

Export the frame as MP4 and save it to your device.

Crop and resize controls

Crop to a square or vertical ratio

Choose 1:1 for feed posts, 16:9 for widescreen, 9:16 for stories and reels, or 4:5 for portrait posts. The tool works out the largest frame that fits the ratio and discards the rest. Cropping re-encodes the video, so an export takes time in proportion to the clip length.

Use case: social media reformats, removing letterbox bars

Pick where the crop sits

Move the crop to the center, top, bottom, left or right so the subject you care about stays inside the frame. The overlay on the preview updates instantly as you switch. That overlay is a guide drawn over the player, and the final frame follows the real pixel dimensions, so trust the exported file over the preview box.

Use case: off-center subjects, talking heads, product shots

Resize to 1080p, 720p or 480p

Scale the result to a standard height or type an exact width and height. Leave one side empty and it is calculated from the aspect ratio, and odd values are rounded down so the encoder stays happy. Scaling up does not add detail that was not in the source, it only makes the pixels bigger.

Use case: matching a platform target, shrinking clips for the web

Export as a standard MP4

The result is an H.264 MP4 with AAC audio and a faststart header, so it plays in every browser, editor and social platform. The picture is burned into the new frame rather than flagged for the player to rotate or crop. Very long clips are limited by the memory your browser will give a single tab.

Use case: uploads, editing software, sharing

Video cropping FAQ

Add your clip, pick an aspect ratio such as 1:1 or 9:16, choose whether the crop sits at the center, top, bottom, left or right, then export. The cropping runs with FFmpeg inside your browser, so the video is never uploaded and the result is a standard MP4 file.
Cropping removes pixels from the edges to change the shape of the frame, for example turning widescreen footage into a square. Resizing keeps the whole frame and scales it to a new pixel size, such as 1280x720. This tool can do either one, or both together, in a single export.
Yes. Choose the 9:16 ratio and the tool keeps a tall strip from the middle of the frame by default, which gives you a story or reel shaped clip. You can move the crop to the left or right if your subject is not centered. Everything outside the crop is discarded.
Cropping changes which pixels exist, so the video track has to be re-encoded. The export uses H.264 at CRF 20, which is visually lossless for most footage. Upscaling to a larger resolution does not add detail, and repeated re-exports slowly soften the image, so keep the original file.
Never. FFmpeg runs inside your browser through WebAssembly, so the file never leaves your device. There is no upload, no server and no queue.
