Extract Frames from Video

Turn any clip into still images. Pick one exact moment, one frame every few seconds, or an even set spread across the whole video, then save them as PNG, JPG or WebP at the size you choose. The video is decoded by your own browser, so nothing is uploaded and nothing is re-encoded.

How to extract frames from a video

Add your video

Drop a clip into the tool or click to browse. The duration and resolution are read on your device and the file is never uploaded.

Choose when to grab frames

Pick a single moment, an interval in seconds or a fixed number of frames, then set the output format, quality and size.

Extract and download

Click Extract frames, then download each image on its own or save the whole set with one button.

Why use Aihangsoft Extract Frames

Grab the exact moment

Scrub to a point on the clip, or let the tool step through it, and every chosen moment becomes a still image.

Full resolution output

Frames are drawn at the size you pick, and PNG keeps them lossless, so a still looks exactly like the frame on screen.

Private and free

Decoding happens in your browser, so the video is never uploaded. No sign-up, no watermark and no cost per run.

Three ways to grab stills from a video

Single frame at one time point

Type the seconds you want or drag the slider while the preview follows along, so you can see the frame before you save it. The time is taken down to a hundredth of a second.

Use case: thumbnail, cover image, one specific shot

One frame every N seconds

Set an interval and the tool walks the clip from start to finish, saving a still at each step. Useful when you want to see how a scene changes over time.

Use case: storyboards, progress checks, contact sheets

An even set of frames

Ask for a number of frames and the tool spaces them evenly across the whole clip, which is the fastest way to build a preview strip or a small training set.

Use case: previews, frame datasets, scene summaries

Format, quality and size

Choose PNG for lossless output, or JPG and WebP with a quality slider for smaller files. Scale the frame down to 1920, 1280, 854 or 640 pixels wide and the height follows.

Use case: web images, documents, further editing

Frame extraction FAQ

No. The clip is decoded in your browser and each frame is written to a brand new image file. The video itself is never altered, re-encoded or shortened. PNG output is lossless, and JPG or WebP keeps only the compression you choose with the quality slider.
Video is stored as keyframes plus the differences between them, so the player can only settle on positions it has decoded. Extraction asks the player for your time and waits for the seek to finish, but the frame you get may differ from the exact timestamp by a few milliseconds.
Every extracted frame is held in memory as an image until you download it. Thirty frames covers thumbnails, storyboards and contact sheets while keeping the tab light. Single frame mode is not affected by the limit, so you can always grab one more moment on its own.
Never. The video is opened from your own device and decoded by your browser, and the frames are drawn on a canvas on your machine. There is no upload, no queue and no account, and nothing is stored after you close the tab.
Pick PNG when you need a lossless image for editing or for frames with text and sharp edges. Pick JPG for small files that open anywhere, and WebP for the smallest size on a website. The quality slider appears for JPG and WebP only.
Only if the browser can decode it. MP4 with H.264 or H.265, WebM and most MOV files work in current browsers. Older browsers may fail on newer codecs, and the tool then reports that the frame could not be decoded instead of saving a broken image.
